Day Camp and Retreat Director

An exciting opportunity to lead an expanding Summer Day Camp and develop a growing fall and spring retreat market.

Job Description

This position oversees the total operation of the Summer Day Camp Program and the complete development and execution of all Retreats/Facility User Groups that occur beyond the summer season. Combining these two opportunities allows year-round employment and community impact. Shared Housing is included.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in human services, social services, recreation, education or business.
  • Three or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fundraising.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with diverse populations.
  • proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
Essential Functions

Day Camp:

1. Leading in cooperation with the Camp Operations Director, staff recruitment, training, planning, and general program operations in accordance with Camp Jorn YMCA, WI State Licensing regulations, and American Camp Association standards.

2. Responsible for providing a safe, high-quality environment for all campers and staff by maintaining compliance with program policies, procedures, and schedules.

3. Supervise and provide guidance to program staff.

4. Serve as a resource for the program and other leadership staff.

5. Build effective, authentic relationships with campers, helping them connect with each other and to Camp Jorn YMCA.

Retreat & Facility Use (School Year)

1. Actively recruit groups to stay at Camp Jorn. Taking advantage of our facilities, program, and food service options.

2. Work with Property Manager to oversee the process of facility readiness - sleeping accommodations, program areas, and food service.

3. Responsible for budgeting anticipated income and costs as they relate to this program's growth.

4. Support registration, agreement/contract, and deposit/commitment processes, provide follow-up correspondence, and track all forms.

5. Provide administrative support to all areas of the camp as requested.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community
through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct leadership to
coordinate schedules, direct, and supervise programming for Day Camp in the following program areas:
sailing, crafts, canoeing/kayaking, target sports, biking, water ski/tubing, and waterfront.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1.  Assists with leading, planning, preparing, and general program operations in accordance with
    Camp Jorn guidelines
  2. Responsible for providing a safe, high quality environment for all campers and staff through
    maintaining compliance with program policies, procedures and schedules.
  3. Aids in the development of program curriculum and implementation following weekly themes
  4. Supervise and provide guidance to program staff and counselors.
  5.  Serve as a resource for day camp counselors on a daily basis
  6. Ensure that day camp staff are maintaining a clean living space on property
  7. Work alongside the Day Camp Director to develop and implement enriching programs
  8. Build effective, authentic relationships with campers; helping them connect with each other and to
    Camp Jorn YMCA.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

  5. Ability to identify and respond to hazards in camp, respond and implement emergency plans.
  6. At least 21 years of age preferred.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community
through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides leadership to plan, direct,
and deliver activities for campers in Day and Resident Camp programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Create and lead structured camp activities in accordance with Camp Jorn guidelines.
  2. Uphold and maintain camp, YMCA, DCF, and ACA standards in regards to camp activities.
  3. Ensure safety through enforcing all safety and health rules and guidelines among campers, peers,
    parents, and guests.
  4. Supervise and manage camper behavior effectively.
  5. Build effective, authentic relationships with campers; helping them connect with each other and to
    Camp Jorn YMCA.
  6. Ensure safety and cleanliness of camp program areas and living spaces.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides assistance to support, organize, and help in the office and Trading Post. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for the collection and distribution of all camper mail and assisting in preparation of out-going mail. 
  2. Assists in the total operation of the camp store including ordering stock, keeping trading post clean and orderly and responsible for maintaining accurate records of camper’s Trading Post accounts.
  3. Assist in day-to-day operation of the Camp office.
  4. Filing and copying documents as needed.
  5. Assist in camper check-in and/or check-out as needed.
  6. Build effective, authentic relationships with campers; helping them connect with each other and to Camp Jorn YMCA. 
  7. Other duties as assigned.
